Mission
Our Mission
The Fort Benning Blood Donor Center is responsible for the collection and manufacturer of safe, potent, and efficacious blood products from eligible Department of Defense blood donors. This includes the handling and maintenance of these blood products under optimal storage conditions and the provisions of safe blood products to meet the blood product requirements of the Combatant Commands. Secondary missions include the following: Training Department of Defense personnel in blood component therapy techniques and procedures; Maintenance of a mobilization/contingency capability for expansion of blood collection, processing, and distribution.
Our Vision
To be a premier blood donor center dedicated to exceeding standards as follows:
- Meet the overall blood product requirements for beneficiaries in Southern Regional Medical Command.
- Push blood products forward weekly to the Armed Services Whole Blood Processing Laboratory in support of Overseas Contingency Operations.
- Maintain a comprehensive Look Back Program to notify blood donors with abnormal infectious disease test results and the notification of any affected blood recipients; as well as the notification of all possible implicated blood donors following any transfusion associated abnormality or reaction.
- Maintain operational readiness that provides for a rapid transition to wartime blood program operations.
- Continuous education of staff and other clients to maintain provision of quality health care and well being.
- Maintain program of continuing education and training competency for staff to ensure adherence to all current industry standards and current good manufacturing practices.
- Prepare and plan for new blood donor center operations in FY12.
