335th Training Squadron Does It Again! (
March 2012)
It is not uncommon for the Weather Building at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., to be overflowing with donors when the 335th Training Squadron hosts a blood drive. Every two months, the squadron sponsors an Armed Services Blood Program blood drive, and each one has a history of success. Their most recent blood drive was no exception; by the end of the day, the Keesler Blood Donor Center registered 56 potential donors and collected a total of 50 units of blood.

The 403rd Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Division from Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., hosted their first blood drive in the Roberts Hangar multipurpose room to support service men and women worldwide. The Feb. 22, 2011, blood drive was part of the ASBP which directly supports active duty and retired service members and their families.

Jim and Linda Parker have donated nearly 60 gallons of blood between the two of them throughout their lifetime. And they are nowhere near finished. The Parkers decided they would continue their journey by donating platelets at all 20 donation centers with ASBP.

Dwindling blood supplies in the summer are about as common as hot and humid days, yet the need for blood remains constant year round. Blood donation levels typically decrease in the summer. Unfortunately, the need for blood does not take a vacation.

On July 20th & 27th, the 332nd Training Squadron, also known as the "Mad Dogs", hosted their third blood drive this year for the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) at Keesler Air Force Base, MS. They have already collected over 500 units of blood for 2009. With two more blood drives scheduled later this year, the Mad Dogs are sure to add to that total.

Capt. Robert Curtis, 81st Diagnostics and Therapeutics Squadron, served as Chief of Apheresis during his deployment to Balad AB, Iraq, from September 2008-January 2009. At Keesler Medical Center, he is chief of the 81st MDTS Laboratory Pathology Flight's Transfusion Services.
